Beginning with my comment on 3/2/08 at 10:19 PM, we are discussing contraception at Rodak Riffs.
It promises to be interesting.
I don't know why blogger isn't letting me put links in my posts. Here is the URL:

I'll have to add this to the list: Environmental reasons:

Well, my challenger petered out before we even got started.
How is it, if people are so sure that contraception is alright, they are so defensive about it. "Thou dost protest too much."
And why run from a discussion that starts to pin things down and really look at the issue? What was it C.S. Lewis said about the boy who won't look at the refrigerator because he knows his chore list is there?
America, you're in denial.
nevertheless, i posted anyway.
Boy did you!
That could almost have been by spiritual reading for the morning.
Glad you stirred things up!
My favorite of your points:
"Onside of these consequences I really don’t see what advantage the contraceptive mentality has for society in general. It is not really an answer to anything except a way for people to have sex and limit their accountability and consequences."
Ryan and Civis:
Enjoying the thread at Rodak's place.
Ryan, glad to see you here. I check The Arrival almost every day. I think I even sent an email to Civis about your blog.
Jared, you did.

People usually get defensive when other people tell them "I'm right, you're wrong. I'm good; you're evil." People are funny that way.
That said, I think that you are confusing being defensive about it for being defensive of it.
There is not a doubt that there are people and groups of people out there who would again make it difficult, or impossible, to access, if they could.
I think the thread on contraception has reached its exhaustive end.
Civis, I can't see the full link for your environmental reasons, but I have heard that some oral contraceptives have been finding there way into water sources and the higher levels of estrogen is reducing the fertility of male fish. I need to check on this, but I have also heard of a group in California taking a stance against oral contraception for the secular reasons of going all-natural, and rejecting contraception because of its unnatural and dangerous effects of the body. It would be under the same banner as going vegan and such. I think many people forget to realize how powerful estrogen is and what introducing extra estrogen into a woman does to her body.
Jared, thanks for the support.
I just posted another comment--a challenge.
Rodak,
Come on my friend. If people are just trying to protect thier "right" to contracept, why do they feel the need to make fun of people who want to have more than 2 kids? Why do they say things like, "You know how to take care of that don't you?"
People are more than just sticking up for thier opinions. If it were just what you were saying they would not get so worked up.
If it were just what you were saying they would not get so worked up.
Speaking strictly for myself, I get "worked up" only if I am getting "worked over."
